It is a small city located in the Udham Singh Nagar District. This city is famous for being cordial to many cultures, customs and religions. It is the 7th most populous city of Uttarakhand. The name of the city was given by a Hindu king Rudra who ruled the Kumaon region in 1588.

It is a Sikh shrine, believed to be visited by the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak dev Ji in 1514 AD. It is named after the dam being constructed there with the name of Nanakmatta dam, which is also a picked tourist spot for many people.
