Haridwar was earlier connected through Laxar, now it cuts through via Roorkee. The station is located on NH 58, the locality is called Devpura of Haridwar. The nearest station is Rishikesh. There are many trains running through Haridwar, some are even starting from here. All the famous tourist spots are approachable from the station. Even the bus stand is just opposite to its current location. It was believed the station started some 130 years ago, it is certainly one of the oldest stations of India. Since the British created the station in an archaic structure, preferred in Britain, later the structure changed to the present view. Where a temple like look is given to the upper side of the station!!

Presently, once you step out of the station, the first thing you will notice is the torso of the Hindu deity Shiva, all blue body with black floating “jataye”, standing right in the middle of the parking area. The Haridwar station is most of the time busy. Trains are frequent here, thus the number of devotees coming-in, increases every year. There is a separate waiting room too. There is afoot over bridge in case your trains stops at platform 3 and 4, mainly 4 platforms are operational, rest two are not in use. The view from the foot over bridge is indeed beautiful, especially at dawn and sunset.

There is a chaos of the monkeys in the station, so beware of them and keep inside all your edible or loose items, they tend to get a little over friendly which you may not like. There are few tea stalls at the platforms 1 and 2, one book stall at the 3rd platform. Once you step out, just before the entrance is the enquiry area. There is a separate way of exiting too, from the foot over bridge starting at 3 & 4 platforms, takes you directly outside. Once outside, you will see the parking lot with many taxis and autos.

Auto and taxi drivers and Rickshaw pullers would encircle you, asking you multiple questions, and seeking your service. If you have planned everything and do not need them, just avoid pass them with a polite “No!”, as some passengers gets really pissed by the annoying pestering of these people, so try to keep your calm, they are just doing it for their survival. Once outside, you can take E-rickshaw if you have got your booking of accommodation done, or Vikrams/autos for convenience.
