As majorly the population is that of students and educationists, the food is quite casual and affordable there. Popular brands like Dominos and Pizza hut is there, you may have great coffee at CCD (Café Coffee Day). Other than these there are multicuisine restaurants, small runaway snack corners and exquisite high end restaurants for classic food also. The place is known for its reasonable price and takeaway food outlets. Fuzion is the one outlet you should not miss out therein. The Lajawab Food point on NH 58 is preferred by many due to its highly reasonable rates. And Lehar Punjabi Dhabas sees a lot of tourists round the corner. Roorkee as a city is home to mostly off the home students and teachers. There are people who left the comfort of their home in order to make their careers and struggle the life here. It is anyhow not reasonable to live in an altogether separate city with no proper means, however the parents may feed the children with money, they are usually short of it at the end of the month always. Children here learn to live in severe means, facing issues in hostels, mess and colleges. They grow up and face new challenges everyday. The atmosphere is educational and intellectual. The students form groups and engage themselves in arts & crafts and music, dance. The faculty is also fun loving here, as otherwise the schedule is tedious and one may get frustrated with the amount of burden both students and teachers face here. There are challenge and trouble in the air as most of the crowd is either studying, teaching or parents of the students. The trend here is simple; the air is always busy, mostly tensed during exam season. Rarely tourist floats much here, few days as the detour is enough for them. The culture of the city is unique too; the trend flows in through Dehradun strenuously. It gets really crowdy in the months of admissions, etc. Anyhow beware of the variety of thugs, in the name of admission in less amount, there are cases registered here of fraudulent trade practises.
The best time to visit here is of course February- March and October-November. Even though the crowd is bustling here still the climate is pleasant. It is rarely humid, even though it has a similar climate as that of Haridwar. Still the place is bearable in summers as well. Monsoon it’s the place hard, water lodging complaints are frequent, but as it is totally in the plains, the issues get resolved soon.
